Atlas Corporis credits

Last updated: 7 November 2026

Atlas Corporis is built on openly licensed work by many people. Thank you. Each source below keeps its own licence; these credits don’t change any of them. The app lists the same sources under Sources & licences.

3D anatomy data

BodyParts3D

Most of the anatomy: bones, muscles, vessels, nerves, organs, ligaments and teeth.

  • Source: BodyParts3D, © The Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS)
  • Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
  • Link: dbarchive.biosciencedbc.jp/en/bodyparts3d
  • What we changed: selected named structures; merged mesh parts per anatomical ID; assigned display colours; normalised coordinates; converted to GLB. Where the source puts a left or right label on the opposite side’s mesh, we moved the label to the matching side (flexor pollicis brevis, middle pharyngeal constrictor, brachium of the superior colliculus, ascending lumbar vein). No anatomical reshaping.

Human Reference Atlas (HuBMAP)

The lungs and bronchi, female reproductive organs and pelvis, mammary glands, spinal cord, palatine tonsils, knee menisci and cartilage, eye detail, and the organs of the female body.

  • Source: Human Reference Atlas 3D Reference Organs (Visible Human Male and Female), HuBMAP
  • Licence: CC BY 4.0
  • Link: humanatlas.io/3d-reference-library
  • What we changed: joined parts per structure and placed them into this skeleton with a uniform fit. Shapes are unchanged, except the mammary glands’ areolae, tubercles and nipples, which were simplified.

Z-Anatomy (separate share-alike layer)

24 eye-orbit vessels and nerves (12 per eye), and Latin (Terminologia Anatomica 2) names for 914 structures.

  • Source: “Z-Anatomy – The libre 3D atlas of anatomy”, Gauthier Kervyn, Marcin Zielinski, Lluis Vinent and contributors. Z-Anatomy derives from BodyParts3D (DBCLS) and credits “Cranial Nerves and Foramina” by the University of Dundee, CAHID (CC BY 4.0).
  • Licence: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)
  • Link: github.com/Z-Anatomy/Models-of-human-anatomy
  • What we changed: placed each orbit with one uniform fit per side; removed texture coordinates; fixed mirrored faces; compressed positions; renamed structures “Left/Right …” and recoloured them. Latin names matched by exact English name only.
  • Kept separate: this layer is stored on its own, under CC BY-SA 4.0. The rest of the app isn’t under this licence, and the app works without the layer. No Z-Anatomy parts with non-commercial terms are used.

Skin surfaces

  • Female and male skin: generated with Tripo AI (free plan, output under CC BY 4.0, credited here). The female skin was generated from our render of an original MakeHuman/MPFB figure (CC0); the male skin from our render of the BodyParts3D skin (CC BY 4.0, DBCLS). Re-posed or fitted to this skeleton.

Voices

Recorded pronunciations use two narrator voices from the ElevenLabs voice library (“David – British Documentary” and “Claire – British Classy Mature”), generated on an ElevenLabs Creator plan, which allows commercial use.

Fonts

  • EB Garamond (Latin names and headings): SIL Open Font License 1.1
  • Geist (app interface): SIL Open Font License 1.1
  • The Atlas Corporis wordmark is drawn from Cinzel (SIL Open Font License 1.1), which the licence permits. Cinzel itself isn’t included.
